Danube Cycle

I am planning to cycle a section of the Danube cycle route (from Donaueschingen, the source, to Linz in Austria. I'm working in Germany in March hope to set off right after (on the 17th of March). Has anyone done the ride this early in the season? I'm a bit concerned that the path might be icy and/or snow covered.
