I'm replacing the manitou 6 fork and headset on my Orange evo 2. I've managed to buy a chris king headset for less than £40 (thanks to a £50 voucher I got for christmas).
Now I need advice on which fork to get. I've seen a rockshox recon RL dual air for around £250. Is the rockshox a good fork (and is that a good price)?
What other forks are there for around that price. I'm also looking at sale forks on websites that are say last years model so I can get a better fork at a discount price, but I don't know what are the best forks around this price range.
The riding I tend to do is mainly on the south downs, so need a fork that will handle a lot of uphills as well as a lot of bumpy downhills.

Have a look at the Rockshox Reba RLT.0

SS - are the Rebas adjustable travel between 80-120mm, or are there different versions of the fork? It's not clear from the website.

You can normally adjust them by adding or removing spacers, but it cant be done on the fly - the fork needs to be opened up.0

Looks like its a pretty involved job - is this what you have to do each time?

If so, for someone technically challenged like me a fixed travel option would be better I think0 -
It is fixed travel really, just fixed at either 80,100 or 120.A Flock of Birds

They are not U-turn, but it does give you the flexibility to change them and they are great forks.0

I assume the RLT comes with the 120mm spacer's already in. As my frame can only take 100mm forks, I'd need to drop it down to 100mm. I've looked at the prev link which mentions how to change it to 100mm, but I don't know how difficult it actually is to do it (or how much a bike shop would charge to do it, as I am having a shop fit my new headset and fork (whichever one I get) at the same time).
Also, do you know if new forks come with the alternative spacers, or would I have to buy the kit in addition to the fork?0 -
Depends who is selling - after market boxed forks should come with spacers and a pump. OE ones may not.0

Mine came without pump in 120mm flavour with the spacers included. I think Merlin said they'd charge £20 to change the travel for me if required.0
