Afan - Whites Level

I'm hoping to do The Wall and Whites Level trails on Friday (weather permitting!).

I see there is a black graded trail option off Whites Level, but can anyone advise how severe this is. Is it mostly rollable or is it more like a full on DH black that's likely to have me off

I've done CYB Beast and Dragons Back, Llandegla Black and the Monkey trail, but how does Whites Level and the black offshoot compare?

Thanks for any help and advice!

It's all rollable as I recall... some boardwalk and some big, tight and steep berms (or they seemed like it to me at the time!). Nothing that can't be negotiated. Afan was my first MTB trail centre trip, and I'd not been riding that long - it was still do-able and good fun, though I skipped a second loop of the black as I was knackered after doing the climb a second time to have a go at the Skyline descent. For me, the Skyline descent was even better than Whites.

    Go for it!

The black loop is alright. There's a lot of boardwalk type stuff which is OK, the berms are do-able. There's a rocky bit at the end of the black which phase a few people but it's not too bad overall.

I've not done the other Welsh trails you mention but overall I'd say Whites is a bit tougher than the Monkey, but that's partly because of the climbing. Worst thing is those narrow 'V' gates used to keep the moto-crossers out, there were loads of them and it really broke the flow of the trail.

I'd not bother with the black, as said it's a load of boardwalk, a fun bit, a rocky bit, then a crap fireroad climb.

As said, the only thing that might frighten you is the rocky bit at the end. Do it, for the sake of completion. The berms are quite fun
