Finally finished my new rigid xc build, bit of a mix of parts I already had and a few second hand bits to get it running.
Frame: GT Zaskar (Supersonics old frame )
Bottom Bracket and Cranks: Shimano Deore
Rear mech: XTR
Cassette: Sram PG980
Chain Guide : N/a
Brakes: Hayes Stroker Ryde/Avid Elixir 1
Seatpost: MAXM carbon post
Saddle: Madison Flux (charge spoon copy)
Forks: Exotic Carbon
Headset: Cane Creek
Stem: On one 70mm
Bars: 680mm FSA
Grips: Superstar Lockons
Wheelset: Hope pro 3 sp on dt 4.2d rims
Tyres: Michelin Country Mud
Pedals: Shimano M540's
Had my first ride on it, quick 20 miles in the peaks, its QUICK. Climbs like a rocket, and alot easier on the descents than I thought it would be

Looks tasty, a friend has an old Zaskar team on rigid PACE forks, not sure about a lack of chain guide, I was running my commuter like that (saint chainwheel) after the chain 'bedded in' it just wouldn't stay on during upshifts.....
SimonCurrently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Supersonic just loves his GT's.
Lovely looking bike, bet it's a right rocket.0 -
Is looking good!0

Looking nice, though as the beginner said, you're gonna want a chain guide on there. Once the going gets rough, you'll be dropping chains like nobody's business.0

I am meaning to put a chainguide on, just need to decide whether to get a full chainguide for my 456 and put the top guide from that on this or just buy another top guide.
That said Ive run it on a few rides now, all peak district rocky bumpy descents, and not had it drop once, unramped chainring seems to be holding it pretty well, think the xtr mech keeps a bit more chain tension than some.0 -
I was running a Saint SS ring and an XT mech, it was OK for a while until the chain 'bedded in' then on upshifts in the middle of the cassette (OK at extremeties) it would just derail.....as it's on my commuter I just run a front mech locked solid.
