Hi
Just purchased a nearly new set of Fox forks for my orange patriot, have fitted to the bike but there is a small gap at the bottom of the bottom of headset (nearest forks) now I assume that its because the crown race isnt the right one and I forgot to take the old one off my old forks before selling (doh!) do I need a new headset altogether or can I buy one to fit my current headset (VP Comp)??
Any help muchos appreciated :)

    You need a comparable one.

Like another one that works with that headset.

  • The simple answer is im not sure whats on there, it obviously isnt right as the forks arent sitting flush, do you get a crown race as part of a new headset?

    Yes.....

Don't dispare, I bought some forks from a rider in my club, gave him the crown race back the next week.....

Cogsy, best bet is to contact the person you sold the forks too and ask for it back! They'll almost certainly need to take it off anyway. Beyond that, VP are OEM specialists from Taiwan, and you'll probably not find the part seperately. A cheap but good headset can be sourced for not a lot, but you'd need to refit the whole thing, which is not a 2 minute job.

Your LBS may have a few spare races laying around.....they should be able to match one with the right profile to the rest of the headset
