Hello,
Looking for my first road bike and found a decent deal on a 2011 4.5 Madone, but the seller claims it is a size 53cm. He confirmed when I questioned this but I have only seen 52 or 54cm sizes. Is this possible?
Thank you!

  • Trek road bikes come in 2cm increments, which are all even as far as I'm aware. I've just dropped major sheets on a Madone myself this very afternoon and the sticker has two sizes. 58cm is the main size but it also says 57.5cm on the same sticker in a slightly smaller text size.

57.5cm is the effective top tube size.

53.4cm is the effective top tube length on a 52cm frame
53.3cm is the seat tube length on a 56cm frame.

    Hi there

Recently parted from some savings by a 2011 Madone 5.9 with £1100 off the RRP - so have been all over the Madone stats in the last few weeks.

As nickellis says there is no standard 53cm offered.

    As per the link below:-

    http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/ro ... madone_4_5

    - its either a 52cm and the seller is quoting the effective top tube length or its a 56cm and the seller is quoting the effective seat tube height. Quite a difference in frame size so worth getting the seller to confirm where he gets the 53cm figure from. What has he measured to get it or is he quoting from a frame geometry table?

BTW, have only done about 100 miles on the 5.9 so far but it is a great bike so the 4.5 should not disappoint but make sure its the right size before parting with your wonga.
  • Thank you both for the great info. Think I will need to request more pictures for verification.

When in doubt I normally get the person to measure the headtube . You can't really mess that up with inaccurate center to centres or whatever.
