Trails near Melbourne
Hi there looking for a little bit of help.
I am going to Australia on the 2nd of march for a month and while I am there I want to go for a cycle. I usually go to Glentress ever weekend and I am wanting to know if there are and good places like this around/near Melbourne. I will also need to hire a bike while I'm there. Any guidance would be great people.

If you don't get a luck on here as here http://www.rotorburn.com/forums/forum.php"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Close to Melbourne there are a number of options:
- You Yangs (40Km West of Melbourne - near Geelong)
Purpose built trails with a variety of flowy singltrack and double black trails.
- Lysterfield (25Km East of Melbourne) was home to the 2006 Commonwealth Games trail - recently repaired with a number of intermediate trails
- Forrest (160Km South West of Melb - 2hr drive) see my review herehttp://www.rideguideblog.co/2012/02/06/mountain-bike-trails-australias-best/
Near Melbourne CBD are the Yarra trails - flat singletrack that follows the river north - get on the trail at Fairfield boathouse.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Malcolm
