Are there any clubs where you are Jeff? Or do you prefer to ride on your own? When you're not riding with Cadel and the Schleks that is!
  • hi corner
Yeah there is a few but very spanish and as welcoming as they probably are have not plucked up the courage to find otu and also dont really want to tie myself up with one but think i will look into it this summer but I just liike to go my own way and chase down the german tourists haha then pass them and enjoy not letting them catch up. bit childish but makes me smile everytime. But yes i think a club is a good idea. there is one in the town where i live sa pobla and i do a guy who is in it so whan i next pass him I might mention it. If i moved back to the uk I would join one in my first weekend back for sure.
if anyone is coming over in the next few weeks I have just bought some spare 80mm rims that need bringing over? cant find a cheap courier to use so i could pay someone to bring them if they are heading this way? just a thought. thanks

Jeff you should go out with your local club and see what it's like. Be a good way to meet people and make some friends, as you say you don't want to do the typical ex-pat thing, so getting to know fellow cyclists could be ideal. And riding in a group will bring on your riding a lot more than only solo rides, which you can still do when feel like.
  • What an awesome thing to happen! Don't have much more to add, apart from a bit of camera geekery. If the photographer you were chatting to was from Oakley, then I suspect he was shooting on a RED. RED were started up by the chap who owns Oakley. No idea why he got into cameras (they're primarily film cameras, not stills) but hey ho.

    Jeff,
Just to back up what Cornerblock said. Pluck up the courage and go for the club.
I am coming at this from 2 angles.
It took me till I was in my mid forties to join in a club and I seriously wish I had done so in my early 20s.
Apart from the good rides, company and new routes I am enjoying now, maybe I coulda been a contenda
The other side of the issue is that I worked in French Canada for a while and for the first 6 months socialised with ex-pats, mostly work colleagues. My life took a massive leap for the better when I cut the apron strings and ventured out to socialise with the locals. It is far from easy at first but way, way better than getting stuck in that rut. You won't regret it.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • You convinced me I will seek out a club
    Cheers
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

When i was there last year i stopped off for a coffee at Tolo's Restaurant just outside Pollensa when i came down from the Cap. I was hoping to catch the bunch who ride out of there but they were just coming back in. I had a coffee with them and talked bikes and they seemed a friendly bunch

    Lee.
I like shiny bikes - especially Italian ones.....!!

Jeff - Poblense is a really good club, and theres also a Pollenca club whch is a bit more hardcore. If all else fails you can come and ride wth cc Inca, my (old, whoops) club.
Ive an Employee of mine whos English and lves n Sa Pobla (just north), nice family and not very expatty - If you like I can put you in contact. Failing that, learn Mallorquin!

Cheers Mate, Much aprpeciate the links :-)
cheers guys. Training camp would be great fun and have thought of the idea for sure. Ive only been cycling for 18 months though have done some 15 thousand odd miles in that time so i know a fair few routes as you say if you dont know anywhere to start I sure can help kick things off. if anyone wants any help or even to meet up im all ears I ride alone all the time. another drawback of mallorca I have lived here for three and half years there abouts and do not have any friends. very insular place and the usual expat brit is not my cup of tea so can be a lonely place at times. Hence riding a lone all the time. Velo I do log most fo my rides and can look on the garmin for some files for you. Will have a look and send soem over if you email me at jeff@evergreengardens.com I will sort somethign out for you. Loads from that area im about 15 min ride away.
    jeff

    Thanks Jeff,

When I get a chance I'll drop you a mail and perhaps you may like to join us or meet up for a drink ;-)
  • would love too thanks

Massivley impressed that you managed to keep up and take really decent photos at the same time!
