So I recently bought this from from the bay and have been building it up over the last month or so.

It is 1 of 8 prototype Felt AR1's made for the Slipstream-Chipotle team and I think it looks amazing.

It obviously isnt finished yet but this is the build list so far

Felt AR1
Full Dura ace 7900
Mavic Cosmic Carbone SSC SL with custom Decals
Continental Competition Tubs
Zipp Contour Sl bars
ITM Millennium stem
Selle Italia Flite 1990

I am definitely going to change the saddle for probably a SLR or a fizik Arione and might also change the bar/stem combo to 3T ergonova as I really love the shape of them and the reach is a bit shorter on them compared to the Zipps.

I am currently waiting for the Brakes to arrive from the US and am undecided on the saddle, bar tape and cabling colours as Im not sure whether to for black or white. I have also seen some orange jagwire cabling that I might be interested in but wanted to know what you guys thought of the build so far and any opinions on what to add next.

Here are some snow pics.

That's stunning. I see what you mean about the colours... I think I'd be tempted to try a white saddle/tape combo but that might be because it's so snowy 8)
  • Nice, these would suit very nicely!

pm me if interested - can do a good price!
  • Black tape and saddle, orange cable and Cornish-J's 3T kit would rock on this bike! Nice purchase indeed.
  • Get the blue 3T on it!!! There's also a 110cm stem on the bay too! I'd snap it up, because the Garmin 3T stuff is rarer than rocking horse shit!! Still looking for the blue ergosum 42 bend bars! I'd say a fizik saddle on would be better, lots of nice Garmin bikes on here... Just gotta find a ex Garmin DA TT rig now.....
Helmand Province is such a nice place.....

I think that you may have beaten me to this frameset on eBay - was it a couple of months ago and went for about £650? I had a snipe bid lined up and with a couple of minutes to go, thought I was going to be the winner.

You've done a good job with it! Aaaghh.
  • Yeah that was the one. I ended up bidding crazy high with about 20 seconds to go so you didnt really stand a chance, Soz :p I just didnt want to lose on this beast.

Thanks a lot. Glad you all like it. I managed to haggle with Cornish-J and am now the proud owner of the matching stem and bars. I just need to decide on the tape, saddle and cable combo now. I already have some spare black bartape and obviously a black saddle so may just go with that atm.

the question is black or orange cables?
  • It's got to be orange!!!

Superb! Orange cables would stand out nicely imo ...... looking forward to seeing the final build, what was the frame size btw?
  • I took the plunge and order the Jagwire Orange Racer cable set and they should be here very soon :D

Just need the Brakes to arrive from America. Have been waiting weeks now and starting to get worried about them, should never have dabbled in goods from across the pond. But if and when they arrive I should be all set.

The frame is a 56cm, Why did you ask?

Loving the bike. Looks absolutely pukka. Those forks are also the nuts.

Saddle? No brainer - surely it has to be a fizik!

Not sure about colour but NOT ORANGE!

Black tape / black arione? White (for both) would prob be the stand-out choice, but only for a few weeks until it got dirty.

Having spent quite some time deliberating over bartape/saddle combo options recently I'd probably go with black Arione/white Fizik Microtex tape. The Microtex tape is one of the easier ones to keep clean by all accounts, and I just think a black saddle looks smarter - and also matches the hoods in a nice collars 'n cuffs kind of way.

I'd also go with black cables. As much as I like orange as a colour, I think cables are one of those purely functional parts of the bike that should remain understated. If I was going to highlight the orange in some way it might be with a black/blue/orange bottle or something.

[edit] Lovely bike, by the way!

Love the dog sneaking in in pic 4. Nice looking bike. I'd be boring and go for safe black bar tape.
  • The bike is going to look excellent with orange cables – and a black saddle with white tape combo it a Rule breaker so it’s a no go ;-)

Black bar and tape for me. Let the frame be the star. White would distract too much, too busy.

Personally I wouldn't bother with coloured cables either.

    Nice frame!!

    Saddle and tape even.

Would recommend the sworks classic tape. Like microtex but better and more comfy.
