Should I go for these?

I have a set of useless Dart 3 forks on my Cube at the mo. I have found a set of 2011 Sektor RL's. I know they are a good price and I am desperate for new forks but I really don't have much money at the moment. Is it worth selling body parts or should I wait?

what bike is it? I would hazard a guess that the darts are 100mm travel and sektors are 150mm so chances are your frame will not be warrantied for that0
-
I think Sektors would be overkill if the bike is actually 100mm. If it is running 120 or 130 the jump may be just about alright.
I would recommend looking for Reba's or similar with 120mm travel if you are looking for a step up in travel.
That said, I do have a mate who is running 150mm travel on a bike meant for 100mm as his other bike broke and he swapped parts. The bike looks like it could be a laugh to ride so it could be alright. I guess it all comes down to weather you feel it is worth the risk.
Just had a look at the rockshox website and if it is the dual position travel adjust one its definitely worth going for if not its could be a risk.
Also make sure your front hub will fit the axle standard that comes with the fork otherwise that could add extra cost onto the buy.0 -
Yeah it's the U-Turn adjustable travel one, it is the right axle option too don't worry. I was looking at lower end forks but this thing is such a bargain I'm really tempted.
Or is is worth spending a a bit more on 100mm Dual Air Reba's?0 -
Or just get these http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FORSRETK/rockshox_recon_silver_tk_coil_100mm_fork_with_lockout be a good improvement over your current forks for little dosh. My mate bought some for his cube and is really impressed with the difference, his were darts too.0
-
Are they really that much of a step up from Dart's at that price? I'm tempted to try them but I don't want to be dissapointed with their performance. Anything has got to be better than my darts though, they are just not smooth at all.0
-
I can't personally comment, as I said, it was my mate who swapped his darts for them and was really pleased.
Hopefully someone else will pop on to offer first hand advise.
I have had recon airs, and they were good forks.0 -
If upgrading get a fork with the Motion Control damper. Check the classifieds too, some good deals about.0
-
So how about a set of these then?
http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FORSREGSOL/rockshox_recon_gold_rl_solo_air_100mm_fork_with_poplock
Only thing is that I can't find them in stock anywhere, especially not in white.0 -
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... L-DISC.htm or http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... GOLDRL.htm
The first being coil, the latter air (and white). You also get an extra 10% off them when you sign up. Only thing is I just noticed they're both out of stock  might be worth sending them an email0 -

Can't quite stretch to a Reba I don't think as we there is a new bike in the family as of today so slightly less money for me .
Just found these http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Frame++Forks/Forks++Shocks/Rockshox+Suspension+Forks/2012+Recon+Silver+TK+-+100mm+-+QR+Axle+-+Turnkey+Lockout_RS-RECON-SILVER-TK.htm
They are in white also, I'm pretty convinced these are the right forks to go for because I just can't put up with my current forks anymore. Am I making the right decision?
I was also wondering if it's possible to fit the PopLoc from my dart onto the TurnKey Recon because I can't find a PopLoc model in white. Is it doable/fairly easy or not?0 -
No. It uses the same spring and damper as the Dart 3. Is slightly better made, and stiffer, but you'd be gaining little.0
-
Really? I've heard some really good things about the 2012 Recon, thought it used alot of the old Reba's components. If there is anywhere near as much stiction as my Dart's though I don't want to know. They will be stiffer as they have 32mm uppers.0
-
The Recons are a little better, but still steel stanchions and Dart internals. Stiffer is the only real difference.
The Dart may be binding if flexing, but it may just need a service.
What is your budget?0 -
Budget was higher but now is probably £150 max so I suppose I should just wait really. The Dart's have felt useless since day 1 so I doubt a service would help. They just aren't smooth in the slightest. They sell my frame with a set of Recon's in my local shop maybe I should blag a test ride and see how they feel?0
-
It still might - could be too much thick grease. But if serious about upgrading I'd look at these:
http://www.farnhamcycles.co.uk/Shop/p/4 ... -wh-120mm/
Superb fork, light, stiff, air sprung, well damped, smooth. 120mm too!0 -
I still can't seem to get my head around Suntour actually making decent forks these days lol. I just always seem to look at RockShox. They do look very good for the price though. So is the Recon pretty much the same as the XC 32 TK then?0
-
Suntour make forks for a lot of people.
The XC32 is an even more basic version with heavier parts. Some don't even have damping, or use alloy lower legs. Though obv the TK gets the Turnkey damper.0 -
http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/dstore/products/Suspension+Fork/3169/EPICON.html That is an incredibly confusing naming scheme they've got going on there, I'm baffled haha. Which one is the one you linked me? Because the specs were not laid out clearly enough on that site for my tiny brain to understand.0

Ah ha, I was looking under 2012 and 2011. Thanks for your help, I'll probably make a decision tomorrow. But just as a matter of interest; Would you wait and save or get the Epicon's? Considering how sick of my Dart's I am haha0
-
Also am I being blind/stupid, I can't see an axle type for those forks on that site, don't want to get the wrong ones.0
-
You need standard dropouts for 9mm quick release, not the QLOC. I'd save for them!0
-
I know what I need but I couldn't see what dropout's those fork's had in the specs. Yeah saving is probably for the best unfortunately. It's a shame I don't have the budget I did last week or I would probably be buying these http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FORSRERL/rockshox_reba_rl_dual_air_100mm_fork__26_inch, Oh well. Thanks for the advice though I very nearly clicked the buy button.0

Ok so I have saved up a little and have now got a bit more money to throw at some forks. There's a set of 100mm Reba RL's on One One for 250 quid? Seem a bit of a bargain to me, thoughts?0
-
Yep, at that price there is nothing better.0
-
I thought so, I think I'll order them tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.0
