Has anyone been to Evans cycles at Milton Keynes??
If so how big is it and do they have a large range of road bikes in??
As i`m looking for a new bike and have some time off and thinking of a trip up there.
Just want to know if its worth it or not.

It's a store in a mall so it's not going to be big. They have like 10-20 different road bikes in at a time. Not a store worth traveling far for, but if you're gonna be in the neighborhood...

and Corleys is round the corner, and Twenty3c not too far up the road....

  • As the last poster said not the biggest shop, however if you do decide to travel up also take some time to visit Phil Corley Cycles or Roy Pinks (both independent shops). Phil Corleys is in Milton Keynes and Roy Pinks is just out side in Newport Pagnell. It may make you trip more worth while as they all stock different brands.

I did call them recently, I wanted a bike building but the guy on the phone had no interest and a pretty bad attitude. Luckily after shopping around I found a great LBS who were extremely helpful and knowledgable.

I've been there and they had a pretty poor selection to be honest, i was looking in the £800-£1000 price range, and they had the Caad8 and a Fuji, and that was about it really... no specialized, no trek, no bianchi.. luckily they had the Caad8 in my size otherwise it would have been a wasted trip.

so ring them up and check if they have the bike you want to look at.

i they have a pretty good selection of shoes and helmets if i remember correctly, clothing was ok -> better than most bikes shops.. but they had just been decimated by the sales.. just funny sizes left when i looked.

oh and the sales assistants weren't overly helpful.. nobody is going to ask if you need help.. but when you drag one of them over they are reasonably knowledgeable... just not particularly friendly.

Evans in MK had kindly provided me with the WORST customer experience I have ever had. This ultimately led to the runner up to the worst customer services experience - dealing with Evans head office. Bunch of tw@7s! Spend your time and money elsewhere.

As others have posted - go to Phil Corleys. They carry a wide range and their staff know, and care about bikes and cyclists. I bought an Argon 18 from them a couple of years ago and the lad who was looking after me rather kindly and unexpectedly text me a pic of the bike when it was built. It's the little things..........

I think Evans will get specific bikes in for you to try from warehouse stock, although can't remember if they ask for a deposit for this. If they do they give the money back if you don't end up buying the bike. Also, I don't suppose they'd get a wide selection in for you.

I popped in to Evans in Bristol yesterday and they had naff all clothes in (although they were coming to the end of their clearance sale, and I guess they were pretty low on sale stock). Cycle Surgery in Filton also had very little in by way of bikes or accessories...not good for browsing :(
Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...

Yeah they do this, but it's not as simple as just moving a bike from stock into a specific store, they are built up to order as well hence their sometimes hesitancy to do this (i.e. there's a real cost to them).

When I bought my bike I think they were charging £25 per bike that I wanted to order in. To make sure that the exact models and more importantly sizes were available I think I got them to make sure that about 6 bike were in store for me to test ride.

All were there when I arrived and the money was all refunded afterwards. No problems as all.

I was buying with a ride-to-work voucher so I had no choice to go elsewhere so they could have been difficult, but I've got to say that no one involved even suggested that doing it this way was a problem. It was all done at their Gatwick store though so whilst there wasn't a transport issue in terms of getting the bikes to me, but they still had to build them up especially.

Maybe it's just that particular store that's awkward?
