Old Falcon MTB Crank Removal

We have noticed that the cranks wobble on my wife's old MTB. Its a 12 year old Falcon Supernova. I have removed the protective screw on the crank arms and know there is another thread inside there that I should be screwing into with something but I do I know what size the thread is - at a guess I'd say around 13mm but whether that is correct or whether its an imperial size, again I'm not sure. Any advice?

Crank removal tool......screws into crank, then the centre part screws in and pushes the crank off.

All covered on Parktools have a read.

    Nothing special nothing odd.

  • Thanks. I've borrowed one from my Dad but its too big. Measuring it I'm guessing its around 13 or 14mm in diameter ( the threads ) compared to my Dad's one of around 16mm. I take it there must be different size removal tools available but how do I know which size it really is - is there a metric and imperial version?? I've seen some on Ebay for around £4 but they don't tell me the size.

Only one standard size, this can be the problem with BSO's using non standard parts...just get to a fastener specialist and get a bolt that will screw through and push the crank off perhaps.

The chainset looks like a Thun chainset and from memory they used an odd sized bolt as the removal tool. Unfortunately I can't help on the size or thread pitch.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
