Cube Editor or Road Bike?

Hi,
Sorry its another what bike type thread.
I am in need of a new steed for my commute and some leisure riding.
Currently riding a hard tail MTB with slicks and decided the time had come to go for a road bike. I am pretty keen on a number of Cube bikes for around the £1k mark - Petalon and Petalon Race to name two.
However as a curve ball I have also seen the Cube Editor which is an Alfine 11 hub geared, flat barred road bike. Obvious advantages of this is low maintenance plus it looks damn cool
Anyone got an Alfine and a road bike - how do they compare?

The Editor is a beautiful looking bike, just a shame my CS didn't stretch to it.0

My friendly LBS is willing to allow me to top up my bike to work scheme with the difference if I want to buy a bike over the £1k mark. So that brings the likes of the Editor into play0

Might find you struggle to get one...58's are all gone.
I was looking at 54 but couldn't find anywhere around Manchester that had them in....really wanted to see one in the flesh before splashing 1200 quid. Really nice looking bike and perfect for my commuting needs.
Probably going to save a bit of cash and get a Scott sub 10 from Evans, note quite as nice but it ticks all the boxes and is 500 quid cheaper (as long as I can learn to live with the orange colour)0 -
Yeah I was looking at the Hyde Race and they have sold out of 54's, they havent been released yet. Cube seem great just a small company expanding too quick to fast for demand.0

Focus planet range seem a viable alternative...worth a look0

I wasn't aware until Saturday in my LBS of this business of selling out an entire year's worth of 2012 bikes in January!! Madness!!
The good news is my LBS had a 58 in stock so i have seen one in the flesh and will be having a ride this week They also think they can get me a 56... waiting a call back on that today.
Will take a look at the Focus.
So do we think this is the better option over a pure road bike for my commute? I am erring towards it0 -
commuted for years on all sort of bikes.
current ride is a ribble winter trainer and although it nice and fast I prefer flats over drops for the traffic and I want disc breaks as the rim breaks really struggle in the wet when she's fully loaded with panniers.
the hub gears just seem like the logical.
doubt I'll find a cube but a few places do focus.0
