Does anyone know if there are any decent trails in Dorking to ride and what maps we'll need? I know you guys go riding round Peaslake, but I'm going riding with a mate who is bivvybagging around that area and doesn't want to trek to Peaslake and back to Tanner's Hatch once we're done in Peaslake.

Thanks guys!

Seriously? It's one of the biggest and best areas for mountain biking in the south...

You say "trek to Peaslake", it's 10 miles! What kind of bivvying is he doing if he's not prepared to ride over one hill?

There's either the North Downs to the north of the A25 or the Surrey Hills to the south of the A25, the latter is generally busier, but holds up better in wet weather. Fewer issues with land owners too!

Ranmore common to the north, Leith Hill to the south.
Isn't Tanners Hatch in the middle of Ranmore Common anyway?

Dorking -> Box, Mickleham and/or Ranmore, or via Westcott to Leith. From Ranmore it's an easy hop to Peaslake and more interesting than just going along the A25.

Though Ranmore in the wet - avoid! At least for the fun bits (duck and hide from the ranger).

Holmwood Common is just south of Dorking. Not sure if there's anything round there. Hop over the road and you're into Redlands (just hide from the FC and ranger! - and again, sucks in the wet) and from there again to Leith.

Must have a play around North Downs again. Haven't done it for ages. Just tend to mess about Surrey Hills.
  • He is a lazy bastard. First flat of the day and he was off to the pub and couldn't be shifted! To be fair, they did have a hard time of it with the ground being frozen and carrying all their kit for most of the journey.

Would like to tag along if you guys are going to the North Downs. I'll keep an eye out on the London Calling thread to see if there are any plans then.

    Cheers for the responses!
