Newish member, was riding Scott Scale 60 - Road/Country lanes, getting more and
more adventurous, then discovered some locals riding Epping Forest, much better,
then Danbury common, need a Full Suss. Long story short, I was owed some money for
a job I did, bloke could'nt pay so I ended up with his bike. See what you think he reckond
he'd spend a grand upgrading it, but i'm not sure.

I will upgrade the Shock and Forks but apart form that it rides really well. Can't list all the
parts, but I know it's got,

Juicy 7's with carbon levers
Thompson Carbon Seat Post
Thompson Stem
Ritchey Carbon Rizer Bars
XT Deore Groupset
DT Swiss EX 5.10 Rims
Specialized Rubber (needs replacing any ideas)
Charge Sadle
Weighs 10.4 Kilos I'm sure that's pretty light.

I know it's a pretty old bike now, but the previous owner hardly rode in still onriginal
tyres so he can't had more than few hundrew miles. Any any opinions, worth keeping, worth upgrading?

Worth keeping, worth upgrading. It's pretty light, even by today's standards. Upgrade the fork/shock and you've got yourself a lovely bike. Ps, don't know how the much do you weigh, but you may need a bigger front rotor if you plan to ride hard.

About the tires, I ride Kenda Nevegals, good all-round tire, but you may find it slow on asphalt.

    Cheers

  • Thanks for the tips, didn't want to gloat but I thought I got a steel, when he
offered me the bike, just looking for a Shock that will fit, forks aren't such a problem,
is there any way I could get a bit more travel though, 100mm doesn't seem enough
could get away with 120mm ?

Girant Trance X3, Canyon Nerve, Giant Reign, all smart kit boys, never thought I'd get myself
a decent sussed this year funds low, too many D.I.Y. projects on the go.

I will get some better pics uploaded, and of course get some winter mud on it !

I had a 2008 fsr xc comp for a year before it got nicked out my shed (lesson learned). Was an excellent bike and certainly worth some upgrades. I'd have been happy to put a 120mm fork on it.

  • Nice bike! I am a little surprised by the 10.4kg weight though, you might want to check.

The reason I am surprised is that the J3 is not light (about 2.1kg) nor are the Ex5.1 light rims (500g a piece), or Juicy 7s. Mine weighs a little above 11kg with 1.5kg forks, 1.6kg wheels...
  • I'll check the weight and sort some better pics when it come back from
the rear shock service in a few days, got some postal scales at work they
should be spot on. Back on my Scott 60 for another week.
