Am totally fed up with continually puncturing rear tyre this winter (Schwalbe and Conti Gators). Have been recommended by LBS the Vredestein Fortezza Quattro Tricomp as it offers full contact protection. However have read a write up that in the wet it does not offer much in the way of grip. Is this true? Has anyone used them and what experiences have you had with them?

I've used Vred Fortezza Tri-comp's over many years and they've proved a very reliable tyre. The occasional rare puncture but that's it. So not bomb-proof, but very good indeed for a fast riding tyre.

I used them for a year or so - good tyres, but in my experience not quite as puncture-resistant as Conti GP4000S and definitely not as grippy.
  • 100% agree with dadmo, also had a year or so on them, now on GP4000s and Ultremo DDs. The DDs are very well worth considering, excellent grip and beefier sidewalls than the conti. Go 25mm.

I have used them in winter for the past 3 years and they always seem to grip fine in the wet as far as I am concerned.

HOWEVER, this year I have come off twice - once on sheet balck ice and once on diesel. To be honest, I don't think the tyre choice affected either of these offs, but you may view my claims on the tyres grip with suspicion!

I have only ever had one puncture on these tyres - a snakebite after hitting a piece of dry stone walling that had fallen off a lorry.

I Vredestein tyres and use the normal tricomp on my summer wheels too.

Have used them on one bike for a couple of years now. Low rolling resistance, no punctures, last for ages but I would agree with the comment about poor grip when wet - have had a few hairy moments!

Speak for yourself rake. The OP was about fortezza Quattro Tricomp tyres. I dont have hairy moments with other tyres so unless these tyres affect the riders judgement in some mysyetious way, I must assume that the tyres have less grip than the others when wet.
