Repairing a waterproof jacket

So I went out for my first ride last night and ending up going for a nice slide round a corner on some ice. This ripped a hole in my new waterproof jacket about 4 cm long and maybe 1cm across. The rip is about 5cm from the bottom of the left sleeve. Just wondering what the best way is to repair this and keep it being waterproof?

The jacket in question is: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-eq25-waterp ... ng-jacket/

Thanks.

You can get iron on goretex patches, they're probably your best bet. I don't suppose that it matters what material your jacket is made from. I repaired a pair of goretex salopettes several years ago with one, and it's not budged despite several seasons of skiing.
    Just google them.

Just noticed, your jacked it teflon coated, so make sure that you iron the patch on the inside, otherwise it might not stick for long.

  • Do you know anywhere that sells them in red? I've had a look round and can't find anywhere.

Also what do you think towards this instead? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spinnaker-Repai ... B001L05X2S Might be a silly idea but seemed an option.

If not would duct tape work?

I'm guessing that the spinnaker tape would work. You only need to hold the edges of the tear together after all.
Duck tape would work, but it might e a bit rigid and would probably peel back after a while, leaving a sticky mess.

Never seen red goretex patched I'm afraid.

Try Field & Trek, Nevisport, Cotswold Camping etc.
  • Just as an update if anyone in the future has this problem I got some stuff called "Tenacious Tape". Comes in a roll and you cut it down to size. Really good stuff and barely noticeable. No ironing either which is what put me off the gore tex patches.
  • Strange - same jacket, same accident only about five years earlier and I ended up with the same tear low on the left sleeve, despite using a large puddle to cushion and lubricate the long slide.

My wife got some Goretex iron on repair patches from Millets and repaired the jacket, although I have not worn it to this day.

I got some self adhesive nylon repair material from a sewing shop. I cut a rectangle out and radiused to corners. I just stuck it in place over a rip in the chest area. Five years later, the patch is still in place after quite a few wash and reproof cycles.
