Budget Tyres

A mate of mine wants to buy his son some new off road tyres for an old MTB he just bought him. Being more of a roadie myself I'm not sure why he asked me lol but I'm keen to help his son get started and so I'm looking a little advice from ya... What budget tyres would you recommend? Thanks

For more serious riding though I'd look higher.

CST get quite reasonable reviews, common OE tyre on Merida assembled bikes - read the latest Vulcan review on here.
