Richmond Park - icy?

I really fancy a spin round RP this weekend as I've not cycled much this week.

Does anybody know if it's prone to patches of ice? There's some properly fast corners there where I wouldn't like to meet anything slippery.

  • Should be okay since it's been dry, i didn't notice any worrysome bits this mourning.

It's normally pretty good, and the main loop gets well-salted. Was certainly totally safe this morning, including the road across the middle.

That said, why not slow down a bit for the corners just in case? Doesn't stop you having a good ride...
    Pannier, 120rpm.
  • It is possible to go slow down Broomfield? By no means do I throw myself down it (haven't got the bollocks) but unless you're on the brakes all the way, you're going to pick up some speed.

If anybody fancies a few laps, give me a shout.

Rode through about an hour ago. Was fine.

Fwiw, I rode around the trail about 8am two-three weeks ago. The water in the bottle started to ice up, but there were plenty of folks riding round. I've only ever come off once due to ice in six years of riding there.

  • Any ice ikley this morning?
  • All good, no signs of ice
  • Ahhhh - this thread is making me feel bad for not getting out today but I'm just too hungover.

Doubt it's cold enough for ice today. No wind either, looks dry - perfect weather.

But, like I said, too hungover. This is helping me justify not getting off my arse.

If it's any consolation, I've not been there, either, and I live a three minute ride from the Park. I got drenched this morning trying to stop the water flowing when my neighbour's pipes burst, the feet got cold, and I thought, "Fcuk that for a game of soldiers".

I'll probably be going out later, though.

    +1.

I definitely won't be going out tonight. Went on the turbo instead.

  • Think my next purchase needs to be a turbo. Is it not a pain in the arse to change tyres so you don't wear out decent road rubber?

My specialist area is knackering or wearing out wheelsets, so I've a very slightly warped rear wheel I use only for the turbo. Worth picking a cheap wheel off ebay or in the Classifieds section.
