Hello folks,

Brand new to this forum so thought I'd make my first post one asking for advice

I have just started my first bike build, got a specialized sworks carbon stumjumper Ht frame fitted with fox forks. I have also got some hope hoops coming my way. The only thing I am unsure of is which group set to fit. To do the frame justice I am looking at either shimano xtr or sram xx or a mixture of both. Any thoughts would be welcomed.

Once I get going I will post some pictures and more detailed spec as per other posts.

SRAM/Shimano is personal, try both, see which you prefer.

My £0.02: XX is eye wateringly expensive. It's barely lighter than XTR (in fact several parts are heavier), save the cassette, but that's the most hideously eye watering part of all, at over £300. I had XX in 2010 and XTR in 2011 and this year. Personally think XTR is better in every way. The XX brakes were utterly dire, although the newest ones have addressed those issues. Chainring wear was terrible, and bear in mind the chainset price doens't include the BB. If you want the Black Box Ceramic one it's another £120 or so! The jockey wheels died in one 4 hour race, £120 please. Conversely with XTR this year I've changed the chain (I use KMC X10SLs) several times, and the pads once, and err.... that's it.

To be honest though, if you've got that sort of money, I'd sell the Hope Hoops, get some lighter wheels and get XT - it'll make a bigger difference to the ride.
