Is it a sign?

Got punched in the face yesterday getting out of the tube.

Was busier than usual. Walking up the stairs (not escalator) to head out, and there was a bottleneck of people just before the gates trying to get out.

A short though substantial women was trying to make her way into the station, through the crowd.

As she muscled her way through, she punched me in the face to move me out of the way.

I turned around and followed her, and in my best posh voice (i.e. not grunting and screaming 'c*nt at her) to keep the moral high ground, shouted at her. Eventually caught up with her, and pulled her round by her shoulder.

From behind she looked reasonably respectable, i.e. not pikie gettup, but when she turned round, all I saw was the face of a rather unsavoury fat women with appalling teeth.

At this point she grumbled "don't you f*cking go near me or I'll push you down the stairs you c*nt", at which point, I gave up and walked off.

Is this the forces that be telling me to cycle?

I get dizzy and feel sick when I cycle when it's this cold.

If you can't MTFU and cycle, then I'm afraid you probably had it coming...

Was wondering this: boss had a right cob on. Mrs RJS took the littl'un to the doctors, and he was a bit weird with her. Wasn't a full moon though - about 3/4.

You need some decent winter clothing Mr Chasey. I've just spent 2hrs on a building site in my cycling gear - was a bit shivery by the time I got back on my bike TBF.

    Yeah.

It's more the cold air does funny things to my chest.

I'm sure I'll get plenty of MTFU comments, but, for example I went out on Sundayfor a couple hours.

Was fine regarding speed, but it just f*cks with my head. I can't see that straight (see stars etc), even though I was plenty well wrapped up, and everything is 10 times as painful. Not cold painful, but just painful.

Did the ride, got home and had to spend the next 10 minutes lying on the floor before I was capable enough to get into the shower. It's just not worth it, especially if I have to work afterwards.

Even for me, with a punchable face, it's not common to get hit in the face.

Christ I'm whinging a lot this week.

    Right, enough of that.

    Really?

    C'mon.

I've punched enough people to know it's not that satisfying.

Did you have a decent hat and something to cover your face? Balaclava, or a buff and a beanie combo. I find my facemask makes a huge difference as it pre-warms and humidifies the air. A cold head will screw you up even if the rest of you is toasty.

One of these bad boys: rapha_knitted_hat.jpg:)

Sunday was still in and around 5 degrees.

I've done commutes in much colder in the past. But a) not in cycling kit and b) about a quarter of the distance.

I wouldn't be able to wear snow boots, wear two paris of gloves and a ski-jacket on my bike!

If you're going to punch someone, punch them in the throat. It's tricky, but has an instant and very effective... er... effect.
