Conditions at Cwmcarn....?

Notax and I have an uplift booked at Cwmcarn on Saturday, but it's not running at the moment due to snow / ice on the roads and I understand that there's a strong chance it won't be running this weekend either :?

We're not sure whether to drive up anyway and ride the xc trail, or even whether to risk the dh if the uplift IS running. I know this sounds mental for someone that's got the Mega booked, which is riding in snow and ice, but I don't want to injure myself before then! Can anyone let me know what the conditions are at the moment?

I am hoping to go this Friday though TBH I'm not that hopeful. I'm going to PM one of the forumites who lives in Cwmbran to see what things are like tomorrow, although by tomorrow afternoon the decision may have been made for me if Cwmdown pull the plug on Friday's uplift - they usually update the website the afternoon of the day before if they know conditions are crap (although this might be more to do with the van's ability to get up the hill rather than our ability to get down in one piece :-))

If I hear back from him i'll post up here.

We'll be riding Cwmcarn very early saturday on the big rig's.... planning on sliding down the DH. Although, this was taken today on the Twrch..

Not looking too good is it. I reckon they'll probably cancel Friday, though you might be in with a shout for Saturday as it's due to warm up a bit. Might have to delay 'till next week as I can't make it on the weekend :-(

Sadly we have decided to cancel the uplift (and our weekend in Wales) The trail looks a bit too sketchy for my liking - fresh snow is one thing, but hard packed ice / snow can be nasty in my experience! Don't fancy that on the dh or xc trail!

Friday's uplift is now showing as cancelled on the Cwmdown website but we'd already decided it wasn't worth a 350 mile round trip to go skating even if it had been running :-)

Good luck on Saturday NM, let us know how you get on.

Rode CC earlier did a loop from the Cwmbran side it was frickin freezing on Airstream with a harsh wind the rest of the trail is covered in a mixture of frozen mud , hard packed ice and snow. Will be riding it again tomorrow 8)
