Hi guys,

Looking at getting something a bit nicer than my BeOne, namely in that I'm after full suspension a little later in the year and want to know what's what.

So, with about £1000 to spend, what can I get? Maybe stretch to £1200 but try and keep it nearer £1000. Riding mostly single trail

Thanks guys,

Matt

+1. See if there are any ex-demos about for that price too.

Or go for a nice hard tail instead especially if you're unlikely to do much other than bump over the odd root occasionally.

It was possible to get a decent full sus around £1k though, but prices keep going up. Back in 2009 I got a GT ID5 for £900 thanks to the deal Halfords had with GT at the time and that they can drive prices down. The spec was really pretty good for the price. That was then though.

  • I'm in the same boat as the OP and was thinking used, but that Canyon looks miles above the used Trance's and EX8's I've been looking at.

    +1 For the good find!
  • I must admit to a certain amount of bias, in that I own the 2011 Canyon Nerve XC 6.0!

However, I would not recommend it to a fellow rider if I didn't believe in it....and I do.

    Have a look at this:

Amazing spec for the money, leaves 300 change for a light wheelset and tyres.

Quite an XC bike. Rear suspension set up is a bit strange. I'd be concerned about the strength of the bracket that holds the front of the shock, but then it's only 90mm travel so would assume they don't expect big hits on it.

Front shock, I'd go with the Reba on the Canyon over the budget RST (I know you've got good things to say about RST of course though ;) ). Obviously you're paying a bit more but the Reba has future resell or reuse value and rather nice forks with remote lock and motion control. The RST may be nice for the price but I'd bet the Reba will be a huge difference in feel.

cant fault your recommendation, but isn't yours a little bit better spec wise than the 2012

True, is XC oriented, but this is no budget RST - this one works as well as any the base level Rebas and SIDs! Only weighs 1.45kg, is well damped and a lot of adjustment. Best fork they do.

True, but it also cost £200 more so you would expect that. Although it's a slightly better spec, I am happy that the difference wouldn't be too different and that the 2012 would be a worthwhile investment.

    Get it from Halfords: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165499

Spec is comparable to Canyon and has had great reviews. More trail than XC... has longer fork and slacker head angle than the Canyon. Both did well in WMB test last year.

New, rather than used. More all mountain than others listed.
