Just got a FSR XC 2007 - loads of upgrades and a great bike, but !

Can't get the Fork set properly, won't lock - RockShox J3 is it just Coil Sprung,
Cant get any travel out of the rear Shock X Fusion 02 RLA, can't find a Manuel or user guide anywhere.
There's just the Air valve and a Red lever but that doesn't seem to do much, is it broken.

Anyone got any tips, I don't have anyone I can ask without taking it to a bike shop.
The bike has never been ridden in the wet and looks brand new, had about 1K spent of
Carbon bits, Rims, Juicy 7's, Thompson post. I don't mind upgrading the Shock, but
I might just be a novice thing, basically no idea what to do.

I have a Scott Scale 60, Hardtail with Toro LS Air sprung which are great and those are easy to set-up.
So thought the FSR's Would be similar. Doh !

Let all the air out of the shock - does it move now?

The fork can be stripped and serviced at home, see SRAM service guides.
  • I'll try tonight, with the shock, will I need any special tools to strip the fork ?

    thanks for tip.

  • Ive got the 2007 xc comp but with the triad shock. I also have the manual for the frame which includes some info on the O2 as well. I'll see if it mentions anything about it.

Given the rl has lockout, I suspect it's just locked out. Try moving the lever to the other side of the shock

  • Cheers all,

The Fork seems to have plenty of smooth spring in it and the rebound is aslo
working from Fast to Slow, But however I adjust the pre-load the Lockout
still travels 20mm is that a normal amount, as my Scott 60 Shock lock gives
me half that travel, I know it's a Cheap Fork, but I thought it should do the job.

The rear is more of a worry, It seems to have about 160 Degrees of rotation and 5 or 6
steps throught which it stops, from side to side, and the marking on the sticker
goes from Blue to Red, is that Blue Soft ? Red Hard ?

blue is slow rebound, red is faster (iirc). All the way to the blue side (left as you look at it?) is fully locked, everything else should bounce.

Not sure the j3 even has a lockout.
  • I've asked around and it looks the the J3's 'lockout' means about 25mm travel but firmish
which I don't mind, as I'm only really riding off road (have a Scott Scale Hardtail for road),
even uphill that won't be to bad.

Re: Rear Shock, 1. Let out all the air and it compresses all the way. 2. Pumped it up to 90psi
then sat on and got 25mm of 'sag', but the shock does'nt seem to move much passed that,
wherever I put the rebound lever. I thought It would be quite bouncy, Is there too much
air in it or does it sound like somethings wrong ? It's meant to have min of 100mm Travel
or is this only acheived on big hits ? Does'nt the rear shock soak up all the lumps and bumps.

Good News: Weighed the bike today and 10.4 kilos, now even I know that's good
for basically a 2007 bike. If anyone is interested I could put up some picks and you
can see all the lightweight bits, I bought it as is, but someone spent sh*t loads on it.

It should only use all its travel when hitting really rough/jumps/drops etc

Stick your pics up in the "My mountain bike" section and tell us all about it.
Finished, Check out my custom Giant Reign 2010
    Dirt Jumper Dmr Sidekick2
  • I'll put some pics up tomorrow.

I'll try and get one on the scales I was suprised by the weight.

Would running the shock under the PSI setting
cause any problems so I get more bounce or is that a bad idea, maybe I should
get it serviced, Evans Cyles charge £40.00, and at least I'll know if it's Fu*ked,
Setup badly or I'm expecting more than this basic cheap shock is capleable of ?
