Route 62 Liverpool Speke to Stockport

Hi

Going to cycle from Speke airport to Barnsley...10 Irish cyclists on road bikes....

Is the 62 route usable in this area....surface ok?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

    hi there. the trans pennine trail (route 62) gets bumpy and rutty from stockport to broadbottom and also off road over windle edge right to barnsley. people have done it on touring cycles, but i would avoid it personally. i have done the trans pennine many times and prefer a hardtail mountain bike with front sus and knobbly tyres. if you are carrying luggage, you will definatly have trouble in the hyde area and will have to push the cycles up the tracks to avoid damaged rims.
