I've had my bike since about 1998, tweaked and messed with of course.
But since kids came along it gets used for shorter rides and due to change in my fitness/shape/age it is less comfy.
New bike will be used for days out with family rides of 10-20 miles max, mostly road but also canal paths, cycle tracks, rough country roads.
Also 20-40 mile rides with my other half.
Any ideas?
Not sure if I want a cyclo cross style, hardtail or a tourer.
I want to be comfortable, want a triple chainset(too hilly round here for a fashionable compact!).
I used to know loads about bikes but things have moved on.

no my area but sounds to me like a hybrid with flat bars and 25mm tyres could be suited
maybe this kind of thing?

Hi sssstelvio,
Sounds like you either need a cross style road bike with 28mm+ tyres, rack and mudguard mounts (check out the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, 'Revolution Cross' range perhaps) or a fast hybrid style bike (Specialized Sirrus etc). Whats the budget?
I'm thinking that you definitely do not want anything that might have the words 'mountain bike' in its name!
