Candy pedals

Hi, i have noticed for a while now that my candy pedals sometimes make strange noises when i ride with them. The noise occurs when i shift the weight bearing down upon my pedal but, it doesn't seem to do it all the time and it sounds almost 'squelchy'.

It does not seem to effect performance in anyway, just curious to know what it might be ? I have never owned any other spd/egg beater pedals so it is most likely perfectly normal.. is it ?
