That was nice and quick. Sadly, I think the thrust of your survey misguided, the truth may lay along the lines of an enthusiast owner who furthers his involvement in the sport with sponsorship. I think that the 'tail wags the dog', the financial benefits serve a cover for the 'hobby'.The older I get the faster I was0

It's the difference between legitimate business expenditure and benefit in kind. By using your company to pay sponsorship, equipment, race entries and fuel etc. you'll save youself a lot of money from paying it out your own income. Likewise, it keeps any salary drawn from the business to a minimum, possibly avoiding higher levels of income tax too and leaving a bigger chunk to take as a dividend at the end of the year.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I think you're right about the second bit, I'm surveying bike shops as well to find their motives for doing it. I suspect that there is no real marketing motive behind sponsorship activity as you say.Its interesting to see if this activity is positively perceived by the cycling public even if the motive is personal rather than for purely business purposes. Also, if there is alignment between public perception and motives it may indicate effective marketing activity.0 -

Done, hope it all goes well Sheptastic, and don't forget to use some decent software when it comes to pulling together your dissertation - little bit of typography goes a long way
