Hi all,

Just getting things ready for a stem replacement, I have removed my old one and noticed it had quite a helping of oil underneath. When I fit the new one is it ok to use chain lube or should it be greese?

Many thanks,

When you say underneath do you mean the headset?
you want grease in the headset and I wouldn't put anything on the steerer were you bolt the stem up for odvious reasons.

There was definately quite an oily substance there when I removed the stem.
I get a problem also where the fork is not locking out regardless of turning the knob.
Do you think the suspension oil is coming back up through the top?

No. Oil not under pressure only goes down. YOur lockout is bust or not working properly, most prob due to said oil.

Keep your steerer tube dry and unlubed grease.
