Renewing Ultegra Shifters

Just a quick question to help me plan:

If I renew an Ultegra shifter, will I need to re-wrap the bar or will the shifter clamp/bracket be able to stay in-situ whilst I change the rest of the mechanism?

    If you are swapping one for one Ultegra or other Shimano the retaining brackets will stay on the bar you would not have to unwrap the entire bar but pull make the hoods and check someone had not wrapped too much tape over the main shifter bodies.
