Cheapish frame?

Hello
Thinking about sneaking our and buying my Wife a new frame and adding a bunch of bits to it.
Question is which one. I've been looking at Ribble and Planet-X and figure something cheapish (£300??) and hopefully steel. Most impotent for her of course would be colour (therfeore Carbon or ALU works too). 2nd thing is which size. She is very similar size to me but aren't "woman specific" frames generally smaller therefore I should be looking for a size down from me?
Most of the riding she will be doing will be under 50KM with a few light sportives and hopefully doing more as she gets fitter.
Thanks

Well, that rules Ribble out then as they don't sell steel frames.0 -

Hmmmnnnn
That one is very tempting. Geometry looks racey. Missed in my first few looks. Guess it needs forks and a headset and seatclmap and is good to go. That would fit the price point !!!
Was looking at the Guerciotti frames but none seem to be availble in 53,or 54cm0
