....for ski resorts!

You'll never guess the findings.....
Anecdotal stories of people who got badly hurt without helmets, or whose helmets "saved their life according to doctors" Lack of certainty from experts about benefits, and lack of evidence Designed for slow speeds, but collisions often happen at higher speeds People with helmets may be less careful, feeling they are safer.....

Only things missing? helmets actually increase some injuries due to rotational effect.....and skidoos overtake skiers with helmets closer than those without.... :)

For no logical reason at all, I wear a lid on the bike for the most part - and am generally "pro" helmet (though anti compulsory wearing), but I would never wear one skiing, even though I am often drunk and, in any event, a terrible skier.

I hit my head on compacted snow and it fecking hurt so I went and bought a helmet. I doubt it will do much in the event of smashing into a tree or falling off a mountain. I do like the fact that I stopped hurting my head by hitting on compacted snow.

As a novice snowboarder, my head would have been as black & blue as the rest of me without a rock-hard pisspot lid (with nice little ear-warming flaps)

All of the above also apply to me. Although I wear a lid for the EPO's illogical reasons rather than my own.

    *obligatory pointless anecdote*

A friend my age (at the time, so 20) died skiing.

    She wore a helmet.

I fell over once when skiing and banged the back of my head (Only time I've ever hit my head when falling over). On the double folded part of my hat. Really soft and comforting.

    They mentioned Natasha Richardson.

You know how Amy Winehouse joined the 27 club? Wonder if there's a name for celebs who die in skiing accidents? (Sonny Bono, one of the Kennedy clan, Doak Walker (ex american football star), aforementioned Richardson.)

well obviously one of them joined the Dead Kennedies........

No such thing as the 27 club. There is apparently no evidence of age 27 featuring more premature celeb deaths than any other year.

And obv you get more celebs getting killed skiing because they can afford to do more of it. Same as with celebs being more likely to be killed in helicopter crashes.

I wear one for both ('cept Dutch-bike riding), I ski off piste a lot and have hit enough hidden rocks and seen a few avalanches to see the benefit. If the snow's crap and I'm out with some less experienced friends on the piste though I ll usually leave it at home....

    heh heh.......
  • I wear a helmet skiing mainly because of the numptie out-of-control idiots on the slope whose ability doesn't match their speed.

Also I found it very hard to answer my kids when they asked how come they have to wear a helmet for lessons and I wasn't wearing one, when they were on the nursery slopes and I was on the black runs.

Anyway, my skiing helmet has built in headphones which are great to rock out to on the lift or away from the crowds
