Just bought an Edge 800 so I could download different routes, went onto Garmin Connect, Explore, then Activities and courses. Then before I can put in a Starting Near point the search icon dissappears and on the left hand side of the screen it says it is loading. Have left it loading for 15 mins + and still nothing. Am I doing something wrong. Have tried to contact Garmin but don't get a reply.

  • Their website is notoriously rubbish sometimes. When I first got my 800 it wouldn't let me upload any of my ride data, the website was down for around 2 weeks.
There are some good external websites that you can plot routes on but I've never used any of them. I'm sure somebody that has, will read this and give you some recommendations

The explore option has been disabled for a while (ie the faclity to search the country looking for other peoples workouts) but everything else should be serviceable. The site is taken off line for a few hours at a time but I have never know it go down for 2 weeks. Explore should be restored next time they update connect.

Garmin never reply to emails, so just ring them.

To draw your own courses you just need to click the courses tab on the main dashboard, then create new course. Be careful you put the way points on the right side of the road or it will keep beeping at you to cycle on the right!

It wont let me upload any rides from file either
  • Not sure what web browser you are using, but there appears to be a bug using IE9. If you click on Compatability View this loads the web site using an older browse..

    Link how to do it...
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/How-to-use-Compatibility-View-in-Internet-Explorer-9

    This fixes the explore issue.
  • I began to upload mine manually into a folder when the site wasn't allowing it. Then I'd upload them from the folder to garmin at a later date.

Not for me it hasn't - its not stopped that particular facility in months, but maybe I'm just lucky ?

I downloaded a few routes from Bikely and I had to run them through TCXplorer to set something or other (Import, Export as TCX or GPX) to upload them. Dunno why....

I use mapmyride.com or bikeroutetoaster. Easier than Connect. Just download the GPX file and copy it to the New Files (I think) folder on the Garmin. Easy.
    FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.
  • I find that Google Chrome works much better that any I.E. version.

Apologies to Garmin. After 10 days I got a reply to my problem. Here is their reply.

I am happy to help with your query. The issue is related to your web
browser. Internet Explorer 9 is a new release and some websites may not
yet be ready for the new browser. Click the Compatibility View toolbar
button to display the website as viewed in Internet Explorer 7, which
will correct display problems like misaligned text, images, or text
boxes. This option is on a per site basis and all other sites will
continue to display with Internet Explorer 9 functionality. When you
click on the Compatibility View button for a site, you don?t need to do
it again as the next time you visit that site the browser will show it
in compatibility mode. If for some reason you?d like to go back to
browsing with Internet Explorer 9 functionality on that site, simply
click the Compatibility View button again.

The compatability view button symbol looks like a piece of paper torn in
half and is located immediately next to the refresh/reload button

At the top of the browser go to: tools, Internet options, security, and
click on Internet icon in the box with the zone types and make sure the
enable protected mode box is unchecked. Then go to the other two zones
(Local Intranet, and Trusted Sites) and make sure that the enable
    protected mode box is unchecked.

Tried it and it works. Hope it helps others
