cycling to N France

I am hoping to cycle over to France (over the course of a few days from Aylesbury) this summer with a destination somewhere in N France. Le Mans is probably about as far south as I'd want to go to avoid mega miles. Does anyone have any recommendations on places to stay over where god food/drink can be had?

    Also interested in this idea. Ferry seems pretty cheap with a bike.
