Bit of advise please people.

I currently have a full ultegra 6600 group set

But have been offered a dura-ace 7800 groupset and am wondering if there is much point in changing and will I see much difference?

Or should I keep saving and get something newer again?

I don't actually know how old 7800 is I'm guessing about 2009/10?

Thanks.

I have both running at the moment and..... there's no difference apart from the way they look and the weight, the Dura ace does look alot better but the shifting and the brakes seem the same to me.

Probably not worth the bother changing and definitely not worth any expense.

Yep - the only advantage is cosmetic really. I'd not bother.

You will see a higher wear rate on DA
Allez Triple (hairy with mudguards) - FCN 4

Wouldn't think that DA 7800 is anything like 2009/10 tbh. Keep your ultegra - at least you know what it's been through.

2009/10 is when 7800 finished and 7900 started, they were still using 7800 cranks in the 2010 tour.
  • As others have stated it's mainly down to cosmetics.

+1 for Dura Ace though, looks smarter imo

There's a lot of difference. 1200 shimano points to be precise.

This is an interesting point. Where is the sweet spot in the range? I.e when is it most durable without lightweight components effecting longevity?

put it this way - I'm still using 10 year old, 9 speed Ultegra on my winter bike....although I wouldn't necessarily agree that the wear rate on DA is any higher than any other kit...

surely the titanium sprockets are a good example of wearing faster.
