Would you spend £2,000 on a bike in the 'wrong' colour?

If I'm savign £1k I don't care if it's pink with green spots!
Then again I'm the same with all my kit. I but what fits/suits my need at the best deal if it looks good as well then thats a bonus.0 -
I'd say its got to be exactly how you want it - which is why i'd buy it and then have it sprayed in exactly the colour i wanted. If its a £3k bike for £1000 off in the wrong colour, then its a £3k bike for £800 off in exactly the colour you want it in. If you cant live with the red then respray it professionally.
Here's some inspiration..... http://forums.roadbikereview.com/bmc/lets-see-your-bmc-162682-3.html0 -
Won't respraying it invalidate the warranty?0

The colour of bike will grow on you ... But a factor to consider is what other bike kit you have (shoes, helmet, jersey etc) and whether or not it matches ...
I'd buy a red/black BMC no probs if I was saving £1k ... and use some of the saving to get matching kit ...0 -
Had the same dilemma a few years back.
Ordered a CAAD9 in Liquigas colours and Evans deliver a raw and white frame instead.
Was offered a money back to keep so left it a few days in the hallway and it's amazing how a colour scheme can grow on you.
Problem is I suppose you can't do this or hang around the LBS for hours on end looking at it.0 -
OK cheers all - it's a bit cheaper if I go for 105 too. But less of a discount for that, so save only £200 on the ultegra.0

i spent £3500 on a framset that was my second choice colour scheme. unfortunately i didnt have time to wait (due to my planet x snapping and having a race in 2 weeks) to get the colour scheme i wanted so i had to bite the bullet and get it in the colour scheme that wasn't top of the list.
im glad i did though now as the first choice colour scheme was OTTBMC TM01 - FCN 0
Look 695 (Geared) - FCN 1
Bowman Palace:R - FCN 1
Cannondale CAAD 9 - FCN 2

I paid £2.5k for a bike not in my first choice colour. It still looks good, but just not my first choice colour. Having said that, the colour I wanted at the time wouldn't be my first choice colour now either!
I saved about £600 off list with the purchase. The warranty is up this March and at some point I will respray it in my choice of colour (not a stock paint scheme). It doesn't worry me that it was not my first choice colour. It is a dream to ride and that's what counts...

Yes i would as long as i could put up with it, different if i really hated it though!0

I think whilst the colour of your bike isn't what you should be looking at ( comfort/ good fit is) If it's not aesthetically pleasing to your self then you wouldn't want to ride it.
I bet all those on here saying the colour means nothing wouldn't be seen riding a bright pink bike ( ala planet x old carbon bike).
I wouldn't however buy a bike in the right colour if it was uncomfortable.Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?0 -
I guess if you're asking the question, it bothers you! If it bothered me enough to post, I guess I'd wait or go for something else. Personally wouldn't go for a BMC as there's been lots of threads on here about frame cracks. That might be old news though and things might be better now. For 2k though, I'd have a 'dale SuperSix, no contest0

I have the promachine and I will take to my grave with me. Although, it wasn't the colour I wanted most too (black with orange/red bits), I am more than happy with the overall experience of the bike. However, I've got it brand new, even much cheaper than yours with sram red etc. (thanks to nockhemate )
I've seen the red one you are talking about and for me it looks sweet. One of the best looking bikes I've ever seenADIHEAD wrote:I guess if you're asking the question, it bothers you! Well, that has to be old info. Mine survived very big crash, on a slippy corner down the road at around 60km/h. Nothing major happend apart from the front wheel that was badly damaged.0 -

It probably is but your accident is entirely irrelevant to that issue!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Well, I don't think so. I only wanted to emphasise that these frames aren't made of cardboard0 -
I've also got a ProMachine and its a fecking awesome bike!
ProMachine
I had the same dilemma, I couldn't get the colour I wanted. Originally, I really wanted the all red frame, but couldn't get the size. After test riding a few wrong size bikes with different stems, Evans finally convinced me to go for the black, raw carbon, with red bits. I bought the bike with some reluctance knowing that the colour was okay but might grow on me. And after a few months it did grow to suit me and now I absolutely love my bike.
In short, the colour of a bike is quite important (imo), that said, the fit and calibre of bike might sway your decision. However, if you think the colour will never ever grow on you, then that bike is NOT for you. However, if it could grow on you then take a punt.
Also you've test ridden bike, right?0 -
It's a good looking bike, my bike colour scheme has grown on me. As others have said, I think I'd go for it and get some new matching kit. Helmet, jersey etc.2019 Ribble CGR SL

At that price point i would say no. It's a lot of money so it's got to be right.
But, having said that, I recently walked into Evans just to browse the kit and bikes that i had previously rejected through colour, in the flesh were completely different and looked fantastic. So i would say see it in real life if you can ( you may have done i dont know) because there's a massive difference to magazine/online pictures to actually seeing it.
good luck0 -

To put it another way, if I was spending 2k on a bike and all it took to make it look crap was a coat of red paint, I wouldn't buy it in any colourFaster than a tent.......0 -
so what's this re. a respray nullifying the warranty?0

I bet all those on here saying the colour means nothing wouldn't be seen riding a bright pink bike ( ala planet x old carbon bike).
Yes I would ride a bright pink planet x, infact I think thats the best colour they did them in. If I found a decent 2nd hand one in my size I'd probably buy it. They look even better with deep section wheels.
I dont like to take myself to seriously.
Team kit and helmets that match your bike - you look like a right tool. You're not getting paid, why try to dress like a pro?0 -

Besides - it's a slightly dubious point. There's one thing saying it doesn't matter if the colour is a mainstream one that most people will think looks good even if it wasn't their choice but something else to suggest a colour that is pretty marmite.Faster than a tent.......0 -

No like this you're just a tool. Like the bloke I sometimes see with full HTC livery and those stupid f00king calf guard, compression things - now that qualifies you as a right tool!“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -
No.
For me personally I buy a bike first on looks, and then second on spec and performance.
It's just like buying a car or a new jumper, it may do the required job but it's still got to be something you like.0 -
this?
£2k, good buy. And it looks great in red, just stick some white tape on.0 -

looks great in red, would look lots better with a black SLR saddle and a black seatpost.0
-
Looks wise I'd add white bar tape, white seat post and some new wheels with white rims just to break it up a little. Oh and some white pedals.
Not a bad looking bike though.0 -
With that much red paint, you can guarantee it will be fast!!!
That stock won't hang around forever and you're advertising a good deal to a wide audience......“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -
