Hi,

This may be a silly question, but is there any difference between sizes (steerer and handlebar) for road and mountain bike stems?

Many thanks.

Nope, exactly the same. MTB stems are usually designed to angle up not down (so the graphics are that way up) and may be built to be stronger and therefore a bit heavier depending which one you get...

Not quite true. O/S (31.8mm) ones are the same. Older 26mm stems do not fit MTB bars which were around 25mm.
