I am going to a single ring 34t up front. Can I get away with keeping my long gauge rear mech or do I have to change it?

    You can keep it.

You can indeed. Or run medium, or run short.

I find the tension is better with short on a single up front and I get a lot less chain slap. Some run chain devices instead, or as well.

Try it with the long and see how it goes.

  • If you shorten the chain sufficiently you won't get any more chain slap than you would with a short cage mech. The only benefit is a slightly lighter mech and slightly less chance of smacking it into a rock
