  • Decathlon ski/snowboard base layers in either merino wool or poly - long or short sleeved.

Before this thread descends into "must have a sheep" on my back, I am quietly liking this

Expensive for a 'vest' but had 1 as a present and then bought a second as found they worked very well in coping with sweat inducing training rides, to remain comfortable from the start, middle and finish of a ride
  • Sorry to do the sheep thing....but Planet X merino base layers are excellent value for money. Not that inferior to Rapha equivalent...but at a fraction of the price.

For synthetic fabrics, check out these nice peeps: www.prendas.co.uk

  • Hi would recommend merino base layer ,been using them for over 7 years and yet to find something as good
  • Cycling-specific base layers are almost all way overpriced. It's the one area of clothing that you can save a fortune on.

I use a variety of long and short sleeve base layers from Aldi/Costco/[insert name of low-price store] made from exactly the same "high technology wicking" fabric as the big name items, long bodies, close-fitting, all of which cost me a fraction of "specialist" cycling base layers and all of which are 100% as effective.

I know this because I have some "proper cycling" base layers from the days when I had disposable income to compare!

I have some merino baselayers and some cheapy make baselayers, I don't wear either type anymore and they absolutely don't perform the same. I'm not saying you need to spend hundreds on baselayers but personally I only buy/use Craft baselayers
  • I've had base layers from here before and they have been great

they are under the 'baselayer' category and the 'sports>cycling' category

    hope this helps

  • I've heard good things about Baa Baa and Under Armour but have yet to try and review either but both are on my list.

The Endura BaaBaa Merino base layers are great. Well priced and work really well. You can't go far wrong with these.
    Orca excellent, but expensive.
Craft are also excellent, I've got a few, but like most sythetic fibres, they tend to hum after a while.

I have the Under Armour Coldgear base layer with the high neck for winter riding and find it works well. I have the planet X merino base layer too but the UA tends to be default when its cold out.
