My 09 five has been changed form 3x9 xt to 2x10xtr, but im having problems with the front mech when I position it to clear the bash ring(gamut p40) the chain rubs on the bottom of the cage, when on the inner ring. When I lower it to not do that it won't clear the bash ring so I can't get the chain on the outer ring? Ideas? The rings are 26 and 38 on 2012 xtr cranks and the ring is a p40 and mech is a 2011/12 xtr. Cheers

Set it for the big ring.

What shifter are you using? Part number?

  • When I set it to work on the big ring( and not to hit the bash ring) it is so high on the frame that when on the inner/ small ring that the chain rubs on the bottom of the cage as it's too high on the frame. Is there more than one cage size? S my friend has xtr and his cage looks longer if that makes sense?
The shifters are 2012 xtr, don't have the numbers to hand as the bike is at my work!

  • It's a p40. It's diameter is about 11mm more than the outer ring size

Designed for a what size ring? And you have wound the top stop screw in to stop the mech moving out?

  • It's for a 36-44 I think. Ifi position the mech low enough not to foul the chain when on the lower ring the mech hits the bash ring when I try to put iton the bigger ring as it hits the inner side of the bash while getting out far enough to put the chain on the outer ring. Does that make sense?

Sounds like the bash is too big.

  • When I asked crc they said the p30 would be too small, next time I'm at my lbs(100miles away) I'll try smaller ones. In the mean time I'll probably just remove it, thanx for your help!

How many teeth is the "p30" for? If 30 then yes it would be. Like wise if the p40 is for 40 teeth it is too big?
