So 7 months later, the De Rosa is back and ready to ride. I've been out a couple of times already and it is nothing short of incredible! Funny that last time I posted there were rumors of the Protos going back into production. Since then, you can now purchase the new one on wiggle for £12k! Haven't seen any yet though I have to say.
anyway, here's some photos:

SUPERB!!!
The all red Zeros set it off so well.
If it was my bike I'd put some Italian rubber on the wheels but apart from that - spot on!0 -
Thanks Well I have a couple of changes to make. I like the tyres as they're nice and grippy in the wet.
I would like to weight it properly... Fancy trying to get it below 6kgTime RXR Ulteam

Thanks.
Ok So it's a Deda Elementi Newton 31 stem with Newton handlebars to match. The combination of those 2 comes in at 400g.
Anyone got any ideas for lighter alternatives that won't break the bank AND they have used that are decent? Handlebars and stem are pretty much the only thing i've never changed before so don't know where to start!Time RXR Ulteam

Deda Zero 100 stems are 110grams which is lighter than the ~140gr Newton 31.
For bars, I really dunno, modern alu bars have all gained a lot of weight, not sure why, but even £60-70 Deda bars are 300grams. I have a set of Ritchey WCS 26.0 which are 46cms (quite wide) from 2001 and they only weigh 226 grams.
Do some research on the bar front, you might find something shallow and light. When you do, let me know please. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
Very pleased to see the choice of tyre on the zero's. Don't know why the 4seasons have such as bad rep, I can't see they are any more wooden or dead than GP4000s'. They seem significantly less vulnerable though. I rate them .
Great component choice, wouldn't mind knowing if you have any joy with the bars & stem, I've use a Giant contact SLR bar and stem which certainly isn't cheap and still weighs 350. Prefer the feel of alloy though.0 -
So far I've found these handlebars:
http://bontrager.com/model/00280
bontrager race lite VR 31.8 and taking official weight with a pinch of salt, I'd say they'll be 250g. Siamon, couple that with a Deda stem and you'd get to a similar weight as your Giant SLR handlebars and stem but they'd give you your preferred alloy feel.
I have never had either carbon bars or stem before. With both components being carbon, what's the difference?
I'd also like to you what it would feel like with carbon bars and an alu stem?
ThanksTime RXR Ulteam

You do realise don't you that the cranks are slowly going to spit those pedals out - just when you are 50 miles from home. And you'll know you deserved itFaster than a tent.......0
-
Rolf, I hope you're talking about the disparity in quality between the pedals and cranks or else i'm lost!
The idea is to overhaul a lot of stuff, perhaps even get a respray which i'll document here and then the pedals will go on a yet-to-be-purchased second bike. (yeah that's right, this is my winter and summer bike )Time RXR Ulteam

No - not the quality - Campag and Shimano are like matter and antimatter. You shouldn't attach one to the other or terrible things might happen!

Can you amend the framing of the pix to show the bars? It's strange not to see the bars - it's like trying to get a visual on a car without seeing the grill and headlight design. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0

Sorry frans but other than clicking on the photo link, i don't know how to resize it.
ok so i'm going to try and get this bike to sub 6kg but only want to swap around a few components.
Currently got my eye on some KCNC brakes and some lightweight skewers. Then it'll be a new seatpost, stem, handlebars etc.
I'll document the progress on here. And the digital scales are arriving soon so i'll be able to know the starting weightTime RXR Ulteam

Rolf, that may well be a challenge!
I just love the look of these wheels on this bike. And if the weight is what i think it is (about 6.7kg) then surely about 7-900g by skewers, brakes, seatpost, seat etc can't be that hard?!
When i'm hundreds out of pocket and only about .5kg lighter, i'll admit defeatTime RXR Ulteam

Love the bike the wheels more so, not quite in the same league but my wife has bought me a RT-57 in matt black with Sram Red. I've just bought a few parts to upgrade the bike (KCNC stuff and a new saddle) I was thinking of some lighter wheels the reds have whetted my appetite. Oh well better get saving0

Heh, I've got Campag Record Carbon pedals on a Dura Ace Groupset  Reason was (at the time) they were the best Look pedals that had ARC - the DA ones didn't and my knees hated them.
Lovely bike BTW.0 -
OK so I have a nice 110g seat post on its way. The original De Rosa seat post is about 250g and has a really crappy way of adjustment.
Saddle has been replaced with a nice 135g claimed, 141g actual.
Stem has been replaced with a KCNC one which is 105g.
Having serious difficulty finding replacement bars though! Have no idea what I should be looking for to be honest. since purchasing a bike with 42cm bars, I realised my 46cm deda c-c bars were seriously over stretching me.
Other little things... pedals are now look keo 2 max carbon (where the carbon is i don't know..)
Anyway, I'll put a few pics up once I get the frame back as it's currently being resprayed as I want it to be immaculate. Can't waitTime RXR Ulteam

Bloody love this ! My favourite bike on here at the moment, wheels look amazing.0

Thanks
It'll look even better soon I hope. The frame is nearly repainted and almost all the part have been obtained for a rebuild... I do need a spring for one cable guide on the downtube which may be a PITA to find but I'll sort that when I get the frame back along with some nice photos.Time RXR Ulteam

Some 3T ergonova team bars would work, nice and light mine were pretty much bang on 200g.

Thanks for your compliments everyone.
Little bit of an update on the rebuild... still obtaining parts.
My seatpost has arrived. Nice light weight aluminium jobby from usa.
Have decided on normal campag ultrashift cables NapD but thanks for the suggestion of powercordz. Decided in a few places that i'd rather have a nice looking bike than go all out on the weight loss so UCI limit will suffice
ermmm what else.... ok well i haven't got the frame back from being resprayed but I have managed to lose one of the small springs on the downtube cable guide things. I'll take a photo when it's back but does anyone have any idea where to source such a thing?
I emailed De Rosa direct about getting a new headtube badge and they sent it about 3.5 weeks ago... still waiting for it to arrive so I don't fancy the same for the spring.
Thanks in advance.
P.S: in the meantime, i have bought myself a scott cr1 team with full chorus 11sp to use. Loving the 11S system so can't wait for super recordTime RXR Ulteam

Looks like the wheels are going so it'd be appreciated if someone could recommend me something that's light and will climb very well.
Just how good are Bora 2's?
also, I saw this on ebay.... get bidding!

You must be mad even thinking of not owning this bike!
