Considering an upgrade to xt m785 brakes, worth it?

I've got a 2011 stumpjumper with elixir cr brakes Which have been a nightmare for the last few months due to constant howling and some serious shudder when they're not warmed up. The pad contact always seems to move itself around aswell so they need to be re allingned continuously. Basicly i've had enough and would rather find something reliable.
The first set that really caught my eye were the new xt brakes, reviews claim them to be bloody awesome but has anyone had any long term use of them? I'm wanting a brake that can be set up and doesn't need adjusting nearly every ride.
Any other suggestions would be great. i wouldn't want to be paying a rediculous amount but if the price is justifyable i'd consider just about anything
Thanks

Yes. Do it. Although SLX is supposed to be just as good. I've swapped elixir to XT. Worlds apartA Flock of Birds

Me too! Went from elixir CR to XT (2011 version) for all the reasons you mention. Now have silent brakes, no horrible judder, and no adjustments needed after the initial set-up. The resin/organic pads have also lasted far better than I thought they would.2011 Canyon XC 8.0 (Monza Race Red)

I tried two Trek Rumblefishes recently, one with SLX and one with XT. The SLX brakes were far far far better. No contest at all.
As someone pointed out on the other thread the XTs may have been so poor as they were not bedded in, but then I was the first person to ride the SLX bike apart from the mechanic so those brakes weren't bedded in either. The SLX were great, could stand the bike up on its front wheel no problem. Just locked up beautifully.
The XT ones were mushy and squeeled like pigs.0 -

Change the pads clean the rotor and keep contaminates of the surfaces and make sure you don't cook them."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

from a short testride at the lbs i can fairly say that purely for power they are awesome!! like throw you over the bars if youre not careful... seriously impressed, might have to get a pair if i can flog my old brakes, they seem to be dirt cheap as well in alot of places, rose are stupidly cheap but are unreliable0

I have 200miles+ on my xt M785's in a cross country environment. Havent touched them since fitting and think they're great. I went from Hayes Stroker Trails 203/180 to xt M785 180/160 (with IceTek Rotors) and don't regret it for a single minute

Had my new XT's for over 8months now and not touched them since fitting. Best brakes I've had. Awesome power, quiet and maintenance free.

well I've gone ahead and bought a set of xt's online so they'll probably be a week or so away. But i did give this method above a go, it seems to have helped a bit. after trying to re bed them in I've had a quick blast around the streets, there are some pretty long and steep streets near me, and it is a noticeable improvement but i'm still confident it's only a temporary fix. all in all i'll be happy to see them gone and a fresh set of xt's in their place.2011 Specialized Stumpy Expert EVO0 -
