What else to ride near Dalby?

Me and a friend are going up to Dalby for two days as it`s too far to drive for the day. Is there anything else good nearby?

We don`t think Dalby alone will have enough for us for two days of riding. We plan on doing the red and black run. We`re used to places like Afan, Llandegla and Coed y Brenin so anything similar would be good.

One friend said you have to pay to ride at Dalby, I`ve had a look on a forestry commission site and it`s not mentioned. Is it just the parking we need to pay for?

£7 to park,Toll road. You can avoid by parking outside the forest but it's then a longish ride in.
There's supposed to be 55km of ST in Dalby but local knowledge would be essential. There's no other TCs close by but the North Yorks Moors has miles of natural riding. The nearest TC is probably Stainburn, about an hours drive nr Leeds or Gisburn(90mins?)at Long Preston

As ibbo has said, its the Toll road you have to pay for, which at the moment is only £4 till March, there are a few places you can park on the red route to avoid the Toll, but without local knowledge you may get lost

For a average rider you will be looking at round the 3 to 3 and half hour mark without any stopping for the Red route, and about a hour for the Black route, theres a bit of seperate Black you can mess about on at Dixons Hollow,im not to sure if the table tops at Dixons Hollow are open again yet tho.The only problem id say,is at the moment there is a lot of braking bumps so some of the route isnt very flowing.
  • If you get there before 9am when the toll road man arrives you park for free ;-)

  • Are you thinking of Wykeham dh?
Its good for a blast and theres some good trails round that area, although theres been alot of felling going on, but without local knowledge it would be difficult to put something good together. The Dh bit ony takes bout 5mins to go down at the most.

Although a local i'm not usually a fan of dalby but trails are quite rough at the moment, but in a good way, riding best its been for years imo.
Moors are always good but little bit wet at this time of year, look at http://www.mtb-routes.co.uk/northyorkmoors/, a good place to start.
You can easily put a 3-4 hour ride in round dalby linking off piste stuff, most of it better then red imo. Obviously guide needed;)

There is a little DH run at Dalby which is off the Red route, but if youre not looking for it can easily be missed, last time i went down it(walking most of it  ),the climb/push back out was a killer, not sure if its all still the same as its going back a few years.
