Hi all,
Me and my mate are planning a few days away at a trail centre, we live in Huddersfield and both are under 2 hours away but going in opposite directions.
So what im asking is which is better? the both of us are pretty novice mountainbikers however ide say were rather confident on our bikes. Were 16 and were fearless haha
Were looking to camp when there or get a cheap place to stay
Thanks

If your travelling by public transport, then i'd guess degla is easier to get too?0

Degla as in Llandegla0

As DodgeT says Degla if your going via public transport or for a epic adventure goto Lee quarry and spend a weekend railing that and cragg.0

okay, ive been looking at getting to Gisburn on public transport and it would be a 2 houriish train ride then an hour and a half bike rie or so to get to the forest, which i dont think would be so much of a problem as the road from the station seems pretty flat and straight. So for a couple of first timers at trail centres, which is better in terms of trails etc?0

Probably more to do at Degla than Gisburn, Freeride area, loads of trails, cafe etc
Don't get me wrong Gisburn is my local trail and I go weekly but for a first timer some parts may be too techy and the blue is just a fireroad which isn't any fun at all, the red is easy also and the black sections are techy.
Get to Degla on the 28th a load of us are going and you can always tag along. :twisted:0 -
which train station would you be going to?
i know from our side (the way we go) clitheroe is the nearest and the roads are anything but flat from here into gisburn just after waddington up to newton is a killer climb then a cool decent. then at slaidburn there another killer climb up to gisburn forest.www.bearbackbiking.com

From Long Preston its a straight road, probably take you 20-30mins at most,
Out of the platform turn left, up hill a bit follow the road until you come to a "Y" junction follow slaidburn sign then its straight on until you come to "Tossside" then pub is on right, gravel road at side of it, follow it until you come to a junction, left takes you onto bottom loop, straight on takes you onto top loop.0 -
Yeah ive seen, so that wouldnt be a problem atall,0

I'd take plenty of supplies, there's not much in the means of civilisation around the trail centre (gisburn), not by what i've seen anyway.
Settle is nice, few cafes etc, good pubs but of course you'll be having none of that Its only about 8 miles away.0 -
ahh so theres not much in means of getting a bite to eat in the evening? unless we ride down to settle. We wont be ruling out pubs just because were 16 mate, there are ways0

There's a yha in slaidburn, keep meaning to stop there myself but not got round to it yet. Pub right opposite. Cafe round the corner does a mean homemade mince beef pie with red cabbage0
