Not unusual. In 1992 the MTS Oceanus cruise ship sank off the South African coastline. The [Greek] captain was one of the first to jump into the lifeboats.

Used to work in ships and oil rigs, have done quite a few practice evacs in my time. Trust me tripping and falling into a lifeboat would be the work and reactions of an olympic gymnast.
