I think the nearest stations will be either Penrith or Windermere, The old railway line at Keswick is worth cycling

If you are travelling by train you could stop off in Dumfries and take in Mabie and Ae, both within biking distance of town. For camping there is Marthrown of Mabie. Another option are the pods at Mabie house Hotel
If you still fancy the Lakes I would travel to Windermere and then if you can read a map get the ferry across the lake and ride the trails/ bridle ways in and around Grizdale forest. There are some good trails out of Sateveley and a classice around Kentmere. Wheelbase at Staveley have small, waterproof maps of local Lakes classic routes. Google the Bogtrotters web site for their excellent route list/guide
  • ^that sounds like a plan indeed! however to be honest, were not the brightest pair in the world when it comes to common sense so it would probarbly go wrong along the journey! aha

by the way im 'his freind' ;)

There's a campsite in Braithwaite at the bottom of the hill. 15 minutes ride up Whinlatter pass to the trails, or 30 minutes ride off road up through the forest from Thornthwaite.
  • Thanks ill have alook at all your suggstions :)
