looking for some advice and opinions:
I have a secteur sport which i have upgraded with a 105 5700 groupset. Now want to upgrade wheels, but from reading around, I think i've got to spend a fair bit to get the next real step up.
The secteur came with cxp22 rims and unbranded (guessing shimano) hubs.
So, is there any value in buying some better hubs and lighter / bladed spokes and keeping those rims and getting the wheels rebuilt? I'm 12.5 stone if that's to be considered.
Thanks

Rims are fine. Hubs (Joytech) are rubbish. (Sling them in your neighbours garden) It will probaby be cheaper to get new wheels when the hubs wear out which won't be to far away. Seems to be lots of threads on these wheels.0

Mine are on their last legs. Bearings are probably shot and the freehub is decidedly dodgy. I can't get into the hub - so I have bought a pair of cheap Shimano wheels as a replacement. I'll put them on when the weather improves.0

Ribble are doing pairs of 105 hubs for £45 at the moment. Thinking labour for a wheel build is somewhere around £20 a wheel so £85 ish plus spokes using the 22's would make a half decent wheel while I save for something a lot better.0

I got these

with 2 free tyres for just under £100. After I put them on I might have a try at rebuilding the cxp22s myself - however I was worried about the timescale for getting something done if I took them off without having a replacement.0 -

Bladed spokes are expensive e.g. Sapim CX-ray cost over a quid each so you'd probably be looking at > £100 for spokes alone. Sapim Laser or Race are a bit cheaper, but you'd still be looking at £50 plus. Almost certainly would be better to buy a wheelset and then use your current wheels as winter wheels until they wear out.More problems but still living....0 -
Thanks Pigtail - I'll look into those.
I didn't realise spokes were so expensive until I just started looking and doing this.
Would there be any reason that the current spokes couldn't be re-used? I'm guessing with very limited technical knowledge that it depends on the diameter of the new hubs?0
