Hi, having never ridden a bmx since my youth, is it acceptable to start riding one at grand old age of 30!!??
I have my 6 year old son to accompany me! (thats my excuse anyway) kinda like when you want to see a kids film and you pull them along just so you can see it! haha

Depends on bike really, I did Raleigh burners could pick one up for 80 and spend next to nothing doing it up, most of it is time related, polishing etc. Best one I had was a Redline with flight cranks etc that cost over 1000 to finish!!
Have a look on radbmx to see what the guys can do.0 -
Flight cranks - I remember them - they were the daddies.
All I had were one pieces that bent and snapped.0 -
Mongoose cali 1986,

Nope, still silly money especially the 80ies ones!!

off to look on ebay.0 -
Lovely pics of the old Mongooses.
I always wanted a Mongoose, a PK Ripper or a Diamond Back Harry Leary Turbo, but had to make do with my Ultra Burner (which was a faux BMX really - didn't even have a cro-moly frame)0 -
never did get a pk ripper we were to poor...
did get though (some time later in the 90's) strated with a torker then a haro sport, then a standard shorty (with gt 3pc cranks) miss those bmx days.. getting told off for grinding that park bench or waxing that high kerb or wall to grind..
even got a ticking off for building dirt jumps in the local woods.. (cant think why)www.bearbackbiking.com

We had a figure of 8 race track set up in our local woods which had a couple of jumps, and if we were feeling brave, we'd have a small fire and jump that.
Sometimes people would knock down the jumps, and once we found a load of tacks down, but generally we had no problem. I remember getting up there at 9 in the morning and not going home til 5 in the evenings.
Happy days.0 -
