Winter Jacket

I’m after a winter jacket to complete my set of riding kit. It’s too cold to go out without one so I’m gonna have to bite the bullet. Problem is I’m on a bit of a budget unfortunately.
I can pick the Altura Night Vision up for £60 – anybody had one/they any good?

Gore Phantom, google it, there are some excellent deals about at the moment.
It's a very versatile jacket, and with layers it's fine in the winter.
I've used it with a merino base layerand long sleeved jersay underneath and been fine in the 1C temperatures we've got a the moment.Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

I've been delighted with mine for the last 350 + miles
Great jacket for commuting in and even this morning (-4) I had all the vents open and wore a thin baselayer and T-shirt (as always) and was toasty warm
Great value for money IMO 8)Share The Road Event http://www.sharetheroadride.co.uk

Altura is a shell jacket so won't offer much thermal properties - better off with a fleece-backed material IME. Gore are probably the best in terms of performance/VFM.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

pretty expensive though - the Mrs would cut my knackers off if she found i'd spent £100 + on a jacket for the bike.
thanks though0 -
I had been looking at the Altura NV myself, partly to use in case it rains and partly for the wind protection. I use a tight fitting base layer, a looser fitting cycling top(roubaix lycra) or my Craft thermal and then a fleece if its really chilly. Would i be better off getting the Altura jacket or one of the DHB eq2.5 to wear over the top 2 layers or are the softshell water/windproof tops quite warm? ie, use the skin tight thermal and just the softshell? Apologies to BobbyTrigger for jumping in on this thread, but with the tops starting at £70 ish I'd rather get the right one, I was almost on the purchase button for the night vision.0

Do a bit of googling, i had an email the other day (sorry, can't remember who from) offering it at £60 IIRC.
It's out there at good prices !!Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

i had an altura one when i first started cycling, warm and dry and very very visible so for £60 you cant go wrong. Maybe not the most breathable though. I recently went for a endura stealth jacket which was pretty expensive but its very warm and waterproof.0

You could buy the Assos Fugujack and not only would you lose your knackers but your member would accompany some onions in the pickling jar - great jacket for cold temperatures mind and maybe worth the pain with the current weather0 -

Any chance you could dig through your old emails as I'm after a Phantom but can't find it at anything like that price !

I can vouch for the ALtura NV..Great jacket for commuting in and even this morning (-4) I had all the vents open and wore a thin baselayer (LUSSO) and a thin wicking T-shirt and was warm enough once I got going 8)Share The Road Event http://www.sharetheroadride.co.uk

+1 for dhb's 2.5. - done hundreds of miles in it fine even for this cold snap. But you need to put on a good base layer and perhaps a loose layer. But it is breathable and fleece lined. Not tested in rain doubt it's the best.0

Sorry, as Keef66 says, I think it was Wiggle. However, it's available from ride cycles on ebay for about £74 at the moment.
