My brother is turning into a Yank

My brother emigrated to Yankland about 10 years ago. His weight has gradually crept up, his knowledge of what is happening outside of the country has fallen drastically and he has just bought one of these 2002-dodge-dakota-quadcab-4x4-b.jpg
4.7 litre, V8.

He doesn't go off-roading and drives the 3 miles to and from work!

My bro used to be a bit of a tree hugger. What has happened to him?!

Mine took citizenship about ten years ago, the traitor.

Still, it was a political move as he's now partner in a major Washington law firm and capable of buying and selling me with pocket change.......

Do my eyes deceive me or does that front number plate actually say Stomp?

My neighbours moved to the states for what should have been 2 years. They came back after less than 12 months because it was too much of a culture shock. She went to an environmental group meeting and the sceptics had all driven there in similar motors. They couldn't see the irony in that.

Only a 4.7 V8, that's only a smal lblock. There is probably a big block option that he could have gone for. If it's a Dodge they even do a V10.

Of the 10 heaviest people to have ever lived, 9 are Americans. The tenth is a Mexican who only put on weight when he moved to America......

I think there is a 3.7 as well as the 4.7. As you say, there is probably a 8 litre V10 (as used in the Viper).

America has such a lazy way of life and the food is so high in fat and cheap that its not surprising that they put on weight.
I remember a holiday to New York when I was 16. I was there for about a month and when I got there I couldn't eat a whole Hero sandwich. I'd eat about two thirds and leave the rest until later. By the end of the holiday I could eat a whole one and nick some of my Mum's too. A lifetime of that kind of eating would lead to, well, an American!

When I went to Denny's in Florida, I'd order breakfast from the kid's menu.

Have you been listening to Alanis Morissette's song 'ironic' ?

You would have thought someone would have told her that the situations she sings about are actually unfortunate rather than ironic. Surely she knew someone who wasn't american ?

Maybe herself? She is Canadian after all.

She became an American citizen in 2005 whist retaining her Canadian citizenship

Ever seen Ed Byrne's take on the song?

Has your brother also moved into one of those swanky high rise apartments?

Seems to be quite common - one of my brothers-in-law moved to the States (a long time ago); he picked up a Yank accent and developed a tendency to talk jargon and shyte, esp when he was talking about work. Now he's a fat git and has had a triple heart bypass so I guess he's a fully fledged citizen...

My brother the citizen is a dyed in the wool lycra clad roadie with less bodyfat than Twiggy. The stereotype is (generally speaking) wrong. Wealthy Americans are toned and slim, only poor Americans tend to the size of pilot wales. There's a large relationship to the Fat Tax thread going on here somewhere.

From what I've seen there's a fair amount of lard on middle class/professional americans as well as the poorer ones. One of the biggest i've met was my old boss at one of my previous jobs - must have been near on 30 st - travelling with him was a bit of a nightmare!

I used to be a keen re-cycler, you know sorting out bottles and cans, batteries and cardboard but I don't bother anymore.

I went on holiday to America for 3 weeks and thought 'what's the point?'
